Submit VMCAS application

Due: September 15, 2026 (No supplemental application or fee)

Official transcripts must be sent directly to VMCAS.
- All institutions at which credit(s) were earned.
- Test credit(s) (ex: AP and IB) must appear on an official transcript and be equivalent to appropriate college-level coursework.
- Test credit memo detailing course equivalent detail may be requested by MSU CVM Admissions Team
All science prerequisite requirements must be completed at the time of application with a grade reported on the transcripts submitted to VMCAS.

International Students

Transcripts must be evaluated by World Education Services (WES) and submitted to VMCAS. It is recommended that transcript(s) be submitted to the translation service at least one month prior to the deadline.
A test of English as a second language must be taken by the VMCAS deadline and results submitted by mail or electronic transfer to admiss@cvm.msu.edu (see physical address below)
- Test options include:
  - Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT):
    - Applicants choosing to take the TOEFL iBT MUST take each subsection of the TOEFL iBT. The minimum required scores on the TOEFL iBT are 25 in listening, 22 in writing, 22 in speaking, and 23 in reading; no minimum overall score is required. All applicants MUST pass all sections of the TOEFL iBT in a single examination administration. The test must have been taken within the past two years.
  - International English Language Testing System (IELTS):
    - Applicants choosing to take the IELTS MUST take the academic IELTS. The minimum required score on the academic IELTS is 6.5 (overall band score), with at least a 6.5 in the listening band, a 6.0 in the writing band, and a 7.0 in the speaking band; no minimum reading score is required. All candidates MUST pass all sections of the academic IELTS in a single examination administration. The test must have been taken within the past two years.
  - Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment:
    - Applicants choosing to take the CAEL Assessment MUST take each subsection of the CAEL Assessment. The minimum required score on the CAEL Assessment is 60 (overall score), with at least a 60 in the listening band, a 50 in the writing band, and a 60 in the speaking band. All candidates MUST achieve at least the minimum required scores for all required sections of the CAEL Assessment on the same exam administration.
  - Language test is waived if you have earned a degree from a U.S. school.
  - Students from Puerto Rico are not required to take TOEFL as they are US citizens and not considered international students.

Three electronic Letters of Recommendation (eLORs)

One of the letters must be from a licensed veterinarian with whom you have shadowed, worked, or assisted.
Recommendations cannot be completed by a family member.
A minimum of 150 hours of veterinary experience is recommended, but not required.

The following requirements must be satisfied for admission:

Academic Requirements
- 100% science prerequisites completion
  - Minimum of a ‘2.0’, ‘C’, or a passing binary grade in each prerequisite
    - Limit of eight binary graded courses accepted.
    - Must be completed with a grade reported on transcripts submitted to VMCAS.

- Minimum science prerequisite GPA of a 3.0
  - The science prerequisite GPA is calculated using only the science/math courses required to fulfill our science prerequisites.
  - For repeated courses, we only look at the highest grade earned; we do not average grades for all attempts.
  - Biology Prerequisites 8-year Limit
    - Our 8-year limit applies to biology courses only
    - If any one of our biology prerequisites (Introductory/General Biology, Biochemistry, or any acceptable subject for fulfillment of our Upper-level/Advanced Biology prerequisite) are completed within the 8-year limit, we accept all other prerequisite course work
    - Chemistry, Math, and Physics are not included in the 8-year limit
- Minimum last 3 semesters completed GPA of a 3.0
  - For undergraduate students, the most recent three semesters’ GPA calculates the most recently completed 36 credits earned with a grade reported.
  - For graduate students with 18+ graduate credits, the most recent three semesters’ GPA calculates the most recently completed 18 graduate credits earned with a grade reported.
  - For graduate students with less than 18 graduate credits, the most recent three semesters’ GPA calculates the most recent 36 credits of graduate and undergraduate coursework combined.
- General education course requirements must be completed by July 1 of the year of matriculation. *
  - Applicants with bachelor’s degrees at the time of application automatically fulfill general education requirements.
  - Applicants who apply without a conferred bachelor’s degree must complete each general education course required with a passing grade.
