The University of Sydney’s School of Veterinary Science was established in 1910 and is the oldest continuing School of its kind in Australia. We are an international leader in veterinary and animal education, ranked 1st in Australia for Veterinary Science (2023 QS Subject Rankings), 23rd globally for Veterinary Science (2023 QS Subject Ranking) and a top 20 university globally (QS World University Rankings 2024). The School delivers inspirational and innovative student–centered teaching, emphasising life-long, evidence-based learning whilst also providing clinical and research excellence through creative, collaborative programs. We maintain teaching hospitals on both the inner-city Camperdown campus and the rural Camden campus, where you will work with veterinarians in a clinical teaching and learning environment. Referral and primary accession cases are seen at both sites, with numerous specialist services offered at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Camperdown. The University Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Camden includes an Equine Centre, a livestock hospital, as well as ambulatory veterinary services to farms in the region, while the Avian, Reptile and Exotic Pet hospital provides veterinary services to sick and injured Australian native wildlife; reptiles; and avian, aquatic and exotic pets. A wide range of companion animals, farm animals, exotic and native species are seen across both campus hospitals. We have a strong global network of more than 5,000 alumni across the veterinary, agricultural, and public health sectors, including graduates in North America and Canada. Our active student societies, including VetSoc and the Camden Farms Society, ensure a rich and rewarding experience both in and out of the classroom.

PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE
During the inter-semester and intra-semester breaks you will be required to undertake placements for preparatory clinical and animal husbandry experience. The final year is lecture-free, taking on a work integrated learning approach, where you will undertake placements and participate in practice-based activities and the management and care of animals.

PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION
Sydney graduates are immediately eligible for registration for practice with the Veterinary Practitioners Board in each Australian state and territory and are recognized by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in the United Kingdom and the American Veterinary Medical Association.
